Last year, the humanistic movement UAnimals launched the international initiative #StopEcocideUkraine. It is designed to draw attention to the eco-terrorism of Russia destroying the environment and all living things. As a part of the project, we are intensively communicating with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Verkhovna Rada (the Parliament of Ukraine), and the Office of the President. We are glad that these negotiations have resulted in a productive meeting.

According to the head of the Office of the President, the world is not fully aware of the scale of the threat to the ecosystem of Ukraine, as well as the risks for other countries that result from russian invasion. That is why this issue should be discussed on all international platforms. Andriy Yermak also suggested holding a conference in Kyiv, in which representatives of Ukrainian and international environmental organisations would present the concepts of compensation for environmental damage.
During the meeting, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, Ruslan Strilets, informed the participants about the damage that Russia has caused to the environment in Ukraine, and the Advisor to the Prosecutor General, Maksym Popov, pointed out that the Office of the Prosecutor General conducts procedural management of 104 criminal cases based on facts of damage caused by the aggressor to the environment.
We are thankful to the Office of the President for the support and will continue fighting for russia’s punishment for ecocide and each of their war crimes!
