On January 25th, changes to outdated rules for the use of air raid shelters were officially published in the Official Gazette of Ukraine by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This included the cancellation of the prohibition on bringing animals into shelters. The initial draft of this order was developed in response to UAnimals’ proposal and “considering the broad public resonance.”
Under the new regulations, people with pets are allowed to stay in bomb shelters under certain conditions. They must be accommodated in separate premises or designated areas within the shelter. Pet owners are also required to:
- Provide necessary conditions for their animals in the shelter and ensure their safety.
- Supervise their pets constantly.
- Ensure the safety of other people and animals in the shelter.
- Prevent their animals from damaging others’ property.
- Adhere to sanitary, hygiene, and veterinary norms and rules.
- Keep their dog on a leash if it is dangerous to others.
- Use a muzzle for their dog if its breed is listed in the list of dangerous dog breeds.
The order has been added to the Unified Register of State Normative Acts. Now, not letting animals into bomb shelters is considered a violation. Therefore, take care of yourself and your friends – head to shelters together in times of air raid alarm!
