On Monday, UAnimals lawyers discussed with volunteers in an online meeting the laws on animal rights. 25 members of the community from all over Ukraine joined the session. UAnimals lawyers Yaryna Liuta and Anastasiia Hevchuk explained what to do if witnessed begging with animals, animal cruelty, or negligence of domestic animals.
According to Inha Sakada, the head of the UAnimals Direct Aid Department, community volunteers are increasingly interested in the legal norms they can use to protect animal rights. She said, “We have analyzed the incoming issues and understood that the topic of legal animal rescue is becoming more relevant. People are showing interest in it because they are taking an active stance. We also notice that people have become more emotionally involved in situations where animal rights are violated.”
The meeting was beneficial for both sides, Inha says. Volunteers made remarkable suggestions, such as developing a document that volunteers would sign before taking a shelter animal for a walk. “Volunteers are our eyes and hands. They encounter situations that we may not notice,” says Inha Sakada.
UAnimals legal experts urge you to take action if you encounter animal cruelty. If needed, you can use the legal chatbot, which provides instructions on what to do in specific situations and templates of necessary documents.
