UAnimals’ legal team processes 155 inquiries in March

Over the past month, UAnimals reviewed 155 inquiries for legal assistance through their Telegram bot. Most of the inquiries were regarding consultations concerning animal cruelty. Here are a few cases that the UAnimals legal team worked on:

  • In Dnipro, a driver hit a dog and ran. Both the dog’s owner and UAnimals filed a report with the police.
  • In Kyiv, a man killed his cat and dumped it in the trash. His neighbors reported this through the UAnimals chatbot. The lawyers filed a report with the police. The neighbors were afraid to do so themselves, fearing retaliation from the man. In early April, the police initiated a criminal case.
  • In Dubno, Rivne Oblast, a dog was shot with a pneumatic gun. After consulting with the legal department of UAnimals, the owner filed a report with the police. A criminal case has already been initiated there.
  • In a veterinary hospital in Zaporizhzhia, cases of animal cruelty have been repported. Therefore, UAnimals lawyers prepared and filed a report with the police at the beginning of April to initiate a criminal case.
  • In the Kyiv Oblast, a dog died from poisoning, confirmed by autopsy results. The legal department of UAnimals helped the owners file a police report. A criminal investigation is ongoing.
  • Reportedly, animals at a dog breeder in the Kyiv Oblast have many health problems.  UAnimals lawyers are seeking evidence or refutation. If this information is confirmed, they will file a report with the police in April.

In March, legal experts filed a petition to recognize UAnimals as injured parties in the case of the Dog Help shelter in the Kyiv Oblast. Previously, the organization had provided assistance to the shelter. The police initiated a case against the shelter back in January due to the appalling conditions in which the animals were kept. The investigation is still ongoing.

There is also a case that went to court last month. It involves a couple from Ternopil who were catching stray cats and taking them away to an unknown destination. The court is expected to announce a verdict soon in this case.

If you have also witnessed a crime against animals and need advice on how to act, contact the UAnimals Telegram bot. If the information given there is insufficient, the lawyers will provide you with individual consultations.
